The income tax return is a mandatory document that all taxpayers must file every year. It allows for the declaration of all income earned during the year and compliance with current tax obligations. To fill out this return online, it is important to know the deadlines and work with a tax lawyer.

The French Tax Administration (DGFIP) issued a press release on March 14, 2023, to inform taxpayers of the deadlines for the 2022 income tax return. The return must be filed online no later than May 25, June 1, or June 8, 2023, depending on the taxpayer's place of residence. The online filing deadlines for the 2022 income tax return and, if applicable, its IFI appendix are as follows:

  • For residents of departments 01 to 19 and foreign residents, the deadline is set for May 25, 2023, at 11:59 pm.

  • For residents of departments 20 to 54, the deadline is set for June 1, 2023, at 11:59 pm.

  • For residents of departments 55 to 974/976, the deadline is set for June 8, 2023, at 11:59 pm.

For taxpayers who prefer to file their return on paper, the deadline is set for May 22, 2023, at 11:59 pm, including for French residents abroad. Therefore, it is important to take into account the deadlines set to avoid risking penalties.

However, filing your income tax return online can be complex for some individuals. That is why it is advisable to work with a tax lawyer. This tax law professional can assist taxpayers in filling out their return accurately and in compliance with the current tax legislation. They can also provide personalized advice based on each taxpayer's tax situation.

Additionally, it should be noted that the pre-filled returns will be sent to taxpayers between April 6 and April 25, 2023. Although this may make the task easier for some taxpayers, it is important to carefully check all the information provided and correct it if necessary.

In conclusion, it is important to respect the deadlines for filing the 2022 income tax return and to work with a tax lawyer to fill out the return accurately and in compliance with the legislation in force. Taxpayers can thus avoid the risk of penalties and optimize their tax situation.
